Starting this Friday, the beaches of Surf City El Salvador host the ISA World Junior Surfing Championship 2026, bringing together 427 athletes from 56 countries in the U16 and U18 categories, women’s and men’s. The competition runs until September 13 at La Bocana and El Sunzal beaches and is considered a key launchpad for surfing’s future stars: 62 of the 71 surfers who have competed at the Olympic Games took part in this junior championship first.
The event also brings a significant tourism and economic boost to El Salvador. Tourism Minister Morena Valdez reported that El Tunco is at 100% occupancy, while investment and lodging in the area keep growing. Activities will also be held for athletes and their families, and 15 Salvadoran photographers on scholarships will be trained to cover sports-tourism events, strengthening Surf City’s international profile.
